An Anonymous Story by Anton Chekhov
A "NEW" CHEKHOV PLAY adapted by Gary Graves & directed by Soren Oliver (Central Works founding artistic director).
CENTRAL WORKS opens its 20th anniversary season with a new play adapted from the Chekhov novella, AN ANONYMOUS STORY. This little known gem recounts the tale of an ailing revolutionary who poses as a footman in the service of a government official. But the anonymous mans political principles are put to the ultimate test when he falls in love with the mistress of his adversary. "A compact symphony of frustrated emotions, incompatibility and estrangement, destroyed dreams and bitter compromises: the very essence of Chekhov"- Kirkus Reviews.
Robert Hurwitt of the SF Chronicle wrote about Central Works' adaptation, THE DUEL, saying: "Essentially a new Chekhov play, Gary Graves adaptation of the master's longest short story beautifully maintains its Chekhovian wry, wistful humor, humanly flawed characters and prescient social arguments."
