Come celebrate the 18 year tradition of professional puppeteers showcasing some of their finest works at the Jarvis Conservatory's Puppet Festival and Workshop. Live performances are an inspiration to children of all ages, and a boost to their imagination, especially when they participate in making puppets themselves in the workshop. A unique hands-on WORKSHOP will give participants the chance to experience being a puppeteer, as well as the opportunity to make their own puppet to keep. About the Puppet Shows Parasol Puppets Presents:
"The Amazing Mysto's Magic Show"
This hand-puppet magic extravaganza is performed in a "bag stage", a puppet stage that the puppeteer actually wears. This adds a new and exciting dimension to the performance. The stage itself turns, jumps and moves to emphasize the action of the puppets. Fast-paced action and lots of audience participation keep this lively show moving right along.
The Amazing Mysto, with the help of Jojo the monkey, Rover the dog, and a surprise visit from an alligator, performs feats of magic no one would want to repeat. Volunteers selected from the audience are asked to assist Mysto, the puppet magician, in this hilarious blend of puppetry and magic.
This popular show is puppeteer Peter Allen's oldest and favorite show. Many years of experience have made it possible for Peter to deal with the vagaries of audience interaction with ease and humor. This show has been performed at outdoor fairs, theaters, puppet festivals and numerous schools and libraries in Hawaii, Washington, California, North Carolina and Missouri. Peter Allen has been performing as a puppeteer and actor for almost 50 years. Born in England, he began doing puppet shows at the age of eight. Peter has performed puppet shows in England, Scotland, Germany, Canada and the USA. Peter moved to Hawaii when he married puppeteer Debbie Lutzky Allen in 1986. They created Parasol Puppets and successfully performed and taught puppetry from their Hawaii base for 10 years. In 1997, Peter, Debbie and Parasol Puppets moved to a farm outside of Jamesport, Missouri. From this central location, they continue to tour with their puppet performances to the East Coast, West Coast, Hawaii, Canada and many points in between.
There will be a 15 minute intermission between shows.
Huber Marionettes Presents: Suspended Animation
In a "cabaret" presentation distinctly adult in its sophistication and artistry, internationally acclaimed marionette artist Phillip Huber is in full view of the audience as he controls incredibly compelling characters through a series of variety vignettes revealing humor, pathos, drama, and grace. Figures of cloth and wood come to life while they mimic vaudeville turns, acts styled after the finest worldwide circus tradition, instrumentalists, portraits of celebrities, and witty contemporary performers. Each marionette personality is developed through detailed, highly refined characterizations, carefully choreographed interplay between puppeteer and puppet,as well as "tour de force" manipulation. fantasy is imbued with a sense of reality, imagination becomes real-time animation. This is not a performance of grand spectacle, but rather one employing subtle artistry to touch the innocence within us all ... an entertainment that makes you "smile with your heart."
