Emerging from the backyards of Waipahu, Hawaii, Rebel Souljahz members Mike Maglinti, Will Sua, Bubba Hodges, and Kulani Cozo began as four friends born with a drive to perform. These young men started singing acapella together in high school and later developing into a full band where they quickly built a name for themselves performing at private parties and in Honolulu's nightclub scene.
Rebel Souljahz quickly appealed to mainstream island music enthusiasts with a full-blown all original island reggae house party extravaganza on their debut CD, "Nothing To Hide". With standout tracks like Darling Angel, Nothing To Hide and The One, they won Hawaii's prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Reggae Album of the Year in 2009.
On November 2009, Rebel Souljahz released their follow-up CD, "Bring Back The Days" in which the group chose to move forward, pushing the boundaries of their writing and raising the bar on their singing. They have matured, having distilled their creative talents into a finely tuned vocal group capable of offering a strong variety of musical styles and messages. The title track, Bring Back The Days, kicks things off with its infectious Reggae/R&B rhythm. www.myspace.com/rebelsoulz
Kapakahi (Kah-pah-kah-hee) came together in April of 2005 when five musicians came together in a garage somewhere in the Mission district of San Francisco. Bringing together five different musical and geographical backgrounds, they eventually formed their unique sound. Now a four-piece act, Kapakahi have come a long way from their garage days, playing top-notch venues all over the Bay area and beyond.
In Hawaiian, Kapakahi means twisted, bent, and confused. Like the multi-cultural mix of musicians that make up the band, Kapakahi is about celebrating diversity in all its fun, funky glory. Their music is a fresh and progressive mash-up of pop, reggae, latin, hip-hop and funk and their energetic stage show grabs the attention of whatever crowd they're in front of. www.kapakahimusic.com
Vintage Music Collective is a 12-piece multi-ethnic multi-gendered party-focused band. VMC is based out of East Palo Alto covering all genres with Reggae, Blues, and Funk sound. They are a great addition to our musical lineup and we're blessed to have them take part in our third ALOHA FRIDAY concert event.
