NOLA - St Alphonsus - An Irish Christmas: Songs and Music from West Cork
NEW ORLEANS - St ALPHONSUS -- The traditional Irish music trio, Legacy, will present their highly acclaimed program "An Irish Christmas Celebration: Traditional Songs and Music of West Cork." The annual Christmas show is a collaborative effort of Legacy and Dr. Jim Flanagan, and is a mix of Irish holiday music and stories of Irish traditions. Jim, who hails from Balleyvourney, County Cork, Ireland, serves as the MC for the program.
The songs and stories are drawn from seasonal traditions of the Celtic nations, with an emphasis on West Cork," says Valerie Plested of the band. "The Christmas music, except for one piece (which will be sung in Irish), will be completely new for most listeners, though the songs are very old!"
This show, the final performance of the Irish Christmas, will be December 13th at St. Alphonsus Arts and Cultural Ctr., located at 2045 Constance St. The show will begin at 2pm, for a ticket fee of $12 (advance purchase $10). Members of the CCE (Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann) will receive a discounted admission with ID/credentials.
This concert is sponsored by the New Basin Canal Branch of CCE.
