A Waiter's Lament-Tales From the Tray-is a rollicking take on the Toronto restaurant scene. Our intrepid waiter, Michael, takes us from the coke-fuelled 80s to the table from hell, the section from hell and the people who populate this Dante-esque world. From crazy chefs, insane owners and corporate behemoths, to the people who walk in the doorby choice! There may not be stage in any given hole in the wall, there is always a show. Part comedy, part anthropological ethnography and delivered as only your best gay friend can. Through the rise of Gay Pride, the AIDS crisis of the 90s and critics galore. This work is a cultural pastiche that reminds us- the person serving our dinner has been paying attention. Michael has seen it all, heard it all, and is now, finally, ready to report back.
Biography of Michael McGaraughty A graduate of York University Fine Arts Studies, Michael studied multi-media Art forms. This would lead him into the work of the Futurist Movement and DADAism. Working with author Susan Swan and filmmaker Barbara Sternberg he found himself doing monologue work and creating Installations that incorporated a living element.
A Waiter's Lament-Tales from The Tray is his third work, following Length Of Stay, a travel inspired work. The second piece being Capricorns, an exploration of Gayness and divination.
Michael also has lots of other education, if you are ever sleepless, ask him about it.
