The Festival Consort presents its concert "Renaissance Glory" in Santa Rosa
The Festival Consort has been performing its concert "Renaissance Glory" for the past twelve years in the historic and beautiful Church of the Incarnation, 550 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa 95401. The performance date is Sunday, January 4 at 4:00 -- celebrating the Twelve Days of Christmas.
The Festival Consort has been delighting audiences for thirty-eight years with their concerts of medieval and renaissance music. They have toured the United States, played at renaissance fairs, and entertained at events throughout the Bay Area. The group's four instrumentalists perform on authentic replicas of medieval and renaissance instruments.
Well known vocalists soprano Carol Menke and countertenor Christopher Fritzsche are joined by David Hogan Smith, director,Joanna Bramel Young, Alan Paul and Robert Cronin in a concert of traditional European Christmas carols and works by composers from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Praetorius, Hassler, Agazzari, Orlando di Lasso, Constantini and the ubiquitous Anonymous are only some of the composers on the varied program.
Consorts of carefully matched recorders, shawms, crumhorns and schreyerpfeifen -- all tuned and adjusted by David Hogan Smith -- as well as douçaine, curtal (renaissance bassoon), guitar and sackbut will be heard in the concert.
