Michael Christopher Band
From the moment you first listen to a Michael Christopher song, you'll find yourself tapping your toes and singing the songs in your head for days to come. Michael's evocative storytelling and transfixing voice seem to paint a picture with lyrics and music. He's fresh on the scene and brings a distinctive edge of showmanship and swagger to the country genre.
Despite growing up in a small town in the heart of rural Pennsylvania, singer songwriter Michael Christopher didn't discover country music until he was introduced to line dancing during his college years."I was coaxed into going to a line dance club which I had never done before and it turned out that I really enjoyed it," Michael remembers. "I was pretty much hooked on country music from that point on." The storytelling within the songs made an impression on him, and shortly thereafter he began singing and playing guitar. "I had never really thought about writing and singing country music before, but as I started listening to more songs, it became embedded in me. In fact, I think it was probably always a part of my DNA that developed later."
In 2008 Michael put together some highly experienced musicians in the Pittsburgh area to form his band. Michael, on lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Zach Reeder, lead guitar/backing vocals; Keith Kleihempl, drums/percussion and Cory Drake, bass. They quickly made their mark on the country music scene and became a favorite at popular festivals, fairs, events and other venues while opening for national acts including Jamey Johnson, Phil Vassar, Josh Thompson,Colt Ford, Craig Campbell, Eric Paslay and Steve Holy.
In only a matter of years, Michael has gone from a new country fan and casual songwriter to one of the more promising regional artists on the circuit ready to take the country music world by storm. He has released a full-length album, 'You and the Open Road,' consisting of twelve songs all written/co-written by himself, and in early 2014, he released the official music video for his single, "Keep It Country."
Michael writes with some of Nashville's most talented and successful songwriters, has recorded at the nationally-renowned Sound Kitchen in Franklin, TN, and has worked with veteran record producer Kent Wells. Most of his songs have been produced by gifted songwriter/producer Phillip Moore.
In an industry that is difficult to make an impression and even more challenging to remain relevant, Michael Christopher continues to hone his craft as a talented singer/songwriter, blending elements of traditional and modern country music to create a sound all his own.
"Above all else, what I've learned is to keep trying, keep moving forward, and make the best music you can make. At the end of the day that's what it all comes down to; it's all about the songs."
