Grinding the Barley: Seeds that flowered into the music of Schoenberg, Poulenc, & Hindemith
Three 20th-century composers -- Arnold Schoenberg, Francis Poulenc, and Paul Hindemith -- were influenced and inspired by music of earlier composers. The San Francisco Bay Area Chamber Choir, conducted by Anthony Pasqua, will put works by the modern masters in historical context by pairing them with music of their antecedents, including Bach, Brahms, Sermisy, and Janequin.
Works on the program include:
Schoenberg: To Her I Shall be Faithful; Two Comely Maidens; Now May Has Come with Gladness Poulenc: selections from Chansons Francaises, FP130 Hindemith: Six Chansons, texts by Rilke Brahms: Selections from Lieder und Romanzen, Op. 93A; Selections from Folk Songs, WoO 33
