Workshop Description
This workshop is for people who want to work with children and youth teaching about human sexuality. It will cover the school district protocols needed to become someone who can teach in public schools as well as the state education codes. It will also cover developmentally what is happening for puberty aged youth. It will also give you the skills to make it easier to talk to children about health and growing up.
Many adults who want to do sexuality education may worry about: Not knowing the right words or the right answers; Being out of it in the eyes of their young people; Giving too much or too little information; or Giving information at the wrong time This workshop will: Cover the legal issues about teaching children Review the developmental stages of growing up and how to give age appropriate information Give you a chance to answer real questions from children all over the Bay Area about puberty, and becoming a teenage. Provide tips on how to answer these question with out bias, shame or sex negative attitudes.
About Jennifer Devine:
Jennifer Devine is the founder of Superstar Health Education. She is a sex educator, curriculum developer, teacher trainer, relationship coach and consultant based in San Francisco. She has been a Certified Sexuality Educator by Planned Parenthood since 1998 and has been teaching sex and health education to youth and adults for over 20 years. She earned her Masters of Divinity at Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, CA with a concentration in human sexuality and theology. She is known for her quick wit and her ability to create respectful, fun workshops on any topic of human sexuality. She has taught at public, private, and religious school as well as at seminaries, universities and colleges around the Bay Area since 2002. She also provides education to non-profit or youth serving organizations. She currently is working as an independent consultant teaching sex education to over 2000 students of the Bay Area each year.
She was formerly the Director of Golden Gate Community Health's (Planned Parenthood) Education Department, which provided sexual health education to over 10,000 students though out the Bay Area every year . She also served as the volunteer coordinator and as a HIV/STD counselor for St. James Infirmary, a San Francisco free health clinic. Her youth education expertise is in Puberty Education, Middle and High School Sexuality Education, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Birth Control Methods, Healthy Relationships, Gender and Sexual Orientation, and Anatomy and Physiology.
Her adult sexuality expertise includes Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Workshop, Intersexuality, Safer Sex and Negotiation for Adults, The Anatomy of Pleasure, STI Awareness in Sex Positive Communities and How to be an Askable Adult (Workshop on Parenting and Children's Sexuality) She also is available to lead teacher trainings, parent education, and adult sexuality education classes. If you would like a sex education workshop presented in a casual salon style home setting, workshops can be crafted to meet your communities' needs.
