First Friday Farm to Fizz: Deep into Champagne with Terry Theise
This is a just-about once-in-a-lifetime to drink some of the greatest wines on Earth, guided by one of wine's greatest teachers. Champagne is one of the most misunderstood wines in the world, relegated too often to the Big Life Celebrations sideshow. Rather, it is a tremendously subtle, profound beverage, and it happens to go amazingly well with most dining situations, from simple to celebratory. Terry Theise has done more than anyone in this country to expand appreciation for these special wines. On November 7 we will drink a broad selection of stunning Champagnes from Theise's portfolio, most of them never before available in Maine. These are all Grower Champagnes: wines made by hand, by the people who grow the grapes, to convey with exceptional purity and distinctiveness the nature of the places they're from. (This isn't how the Big Champagne Houses do it, to say the least.) Enjoy up-close-and-personal time with one of the most sought-after personalities in wine, plus extensive and terrific small-plate food from Rosemont Chef Brad Messier, who will show how ideally these Champagnes match up with all sorts of eating (caviar is barely scratching the surface!).
