A stylistically eclectic evening, with a common thread of big bands, big arrangements, big hooks, and stories to tell.
AIRPORT A Boston band all about big twang, singable, sweet, hooky, jangly, old school 70s-inspired rock. Chiming chords billowing in the breeze of sugary melodies and stacked harmonies; reflective, driving down the highway, coffee shop, whiskey-drinking, melodic, sing-along, "remember when?" memory-jolting, rock, soft rock, countryish, popish music. Raised on K-tel, AM/FM radio, Hee Haw, Crowded House. Sometimes-rock/sometimes-Americana/always-melodic. Five guys neck-deep in the Boston and beyond scene (Waltham, Boone, Electric City, Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents), doing a wee-bit twangy and lots of singing thing. And, oh, that pedal steel.
Go Up, Airport's debut recording, was released in 2011. The singles "Long Time" and "Maggie" were released early this year and are available on iTunes and Bandcamp.
EDDIE JAPAN Boston's Eddie Japan combines '60s baroque pop and mod influences with the less restrained tendencies of '80s alternative guitar bands to create a soaring, dramatic sound that stands apart from the beats and banjos of today's indie scene. The band was recently described by the Boston Herald as "...a circus of jazzy horn lines and girl group cooing, of swinging '60s cool and odd '80s new wave." A sextet with two female backing vocalists, the sound is expansive and the performance energetic, with frontman David Santos summoning the swagger of a young Tom Jones and the dramatic ache of Morrissey.
Winners of the 2013 Rock 'n' Roll Rumble. Their latest EP "Modern Desperation Part 1", and recent single "Fight Song", dedicated to the 2011Wisconsin protesters, are available on iTunes and Bandcamp.
PETER BUZZELLE A singer/songwriter, power pop/indie rock recording artist from Boston, Massachusetts, Buzzelle's main influences are mixed amongst artists such as Elliott Smith, The Shins, Morrissey and Band Of Horses. Buzzelle is an original singer and songwriter whose lyrics and vocal melodies tell a story about his life and his experiences.
Peter's latest, "Sea Of White" was released on Hidden Trail Records earlier this year, and will receive the proper send off out into the big scary world of new releases on this night. A wonderful record of 90's singer-songwriter meets 70's power pop, it's a gorgeous collection of memories, of love, wrapped up in a lush, velvety, sonic bow. Peter's band features members of Airport, Eddie Japan, Parks, Claws That Catch, and Parlour Bells.
