"How does a poem mean?" asked the poet John Ciardi. This workshop will focus on meaning in poems. How much should you, as a poet, prioritize understanding when drafting and revising, and how do you combine it with the overall experience of a poem? We'll look at some examples from classic and contemporary poetry, then write some lines individually, and discuss how they capture and free meaning.
