"New World" - Berkeley Concert
Celebrating our conductor's move from Milan to California, the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra will play a concert of music focusing on the theme of "New World". We interpret "New World" in a number of ways: We have the "New World" as America, for which we'll perform The Walnut Valley Suite by Bruce Graybill, Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, and a few ragtime numbers. We also include some Calace because if you're from Milan, even Naples is a new and faraway place. And of course we'll play a movement from Dvorak's New World Symphony.
The San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra is an orchestra of instruments in the mandolin family: mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, and mandocello, in addition to guitar and double bass. The group formed in 2005, and our repertoire focuses on a new theme each season, with seasons lasting four to six months.
