Wilkinson and Pickett: Income Inequality and Societal Health
Gross income inequalities are understood to be divisive and corrosive; in generally wealthy societies, the poor have shorter lives and suffer more from almost every social problem, from ill health to long working hours. But in The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better, Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett offer compelling evidence that more unequal societies are bad for everyone within themthe well-off as well as the poor, and share how to shift the balance from self-interested consumerism to a friendlier and more collaborative society. Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life, with University Book Store.
