Food Lit Book Club (January - March)
The Food-Lit Book Club is an exciting new offering from 18 Reasons & Omnivore Books. Here's how it works:
On a first-come basis, up to twelve 18 Reasons members can sign-up to participate in this book club focused exclusively on food literature.
Participation includes reading three food-themed books and beginning January 2010, attending three corresponding informally group discussions moderated by book club aficionado and food lover Heather Knape (heather@18reasons.org).
The club meetings take place at 18 Reasons (593 Guerrero Street at 18th) on the last Saturday of each month from 1 - 3 in the afternoon.
Commitment to the book club is for 3 months. At the end of three months, three new books will be selected and attendance will reopen for the next club.
The book selections for the first part of the year are:
January: The Gastronomical Me by M.F.K. Fisher (Club Meeting: Jan. 30)
February: Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper: A Sweet-Sour Memoir of Eating in China by Fuchsia Dunlop (Club Meeting: Feb. 27)
March: Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer by Novella Carpenter Club Meeting: Mar. 27)
Participation costs $30 without purchase of the books or $75 with purchase of all three book through Omnivore Books. If you choose to purchase the books through Omnivore Books, an independently owned local bookstore, 20% of the proceeds will go to support 18 Reasons.
If you choose to order the club books through Omnivore Books you can pick up your books any time between December 1st and January 1st. They are located at 3885a Cesar Chavez Street, San Francisco.
