Berkeley Choro San Jose Home Concert with Guest Mandolinist, Tim Connell
Berkeley Choro Ensemble joins forces with virtuoso mandolinist Tim Connell from Portland, Oregon in a concert celebrating the traditional music of Brazil. The ensemble consists of Jane Lenoir, flute, Ricardo Peixoto, 7-string Brazilian guitar, Brian Rice, percussion and pandeiro, and Tim Connell on mandolin. Selections will include music by Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolin, Jobim, Ricardo Peixoto and more. This style of music is a synthesis of European classical music popular in Brazil in the 19th Century and Afro Brazilian rhythm. Today, Brazilian Choro music is experiencing a new wave of popularity, with Paquito D'Rivera, Yo Yo Ma and other well-known jazz and classical musicians celebrating Brazilian music as part of the repertoire. In May, 2015 Berkeley Choro Ensemble will perform at the Berkeley Fetival of Choro at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, joining forces with the magnificient Trio Brasileiro from Brazil.
