EL JOLGORIO NAVIDEÑO RETURNS TO MOSELEY'S TO CELEBRATE ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY
www.jolgorio.org
El Jolgorio Navideño, the largest Latino holiday gala in New England returns on Saturday, December 6, 2014 to celebrate its 25th anniversary where it all began: Moseley's on the Charles - 50 Bridge Street, Dedham, MA 02026. For 25 years, El Jolgorio Navideño has served as a vibrant holiday event in Latino tradition to raise funds in support of educational and cultural programs that elevate the Latino community.
The night will feature two floors of entertainment with live performances by Jorge Arce, who performed at first Jolgorio in 1989. He will be accompanied by his group Raiz de Plena, a celebrated Puerto Rican ensemble bringing their original repertoire of holiday music. The night will also showcase the musical talents of two young and talented Latinas, Zayra Pola y Su Orquesta bringing Latin contemporary music, and Fabiola Mendez y Su Grupo, who will delight the crowd with the sounds of her cuatro. On the second level, guests will dance to the sounds of DJ Social and DJ Maz.
Dinner will be provided by Vejigantes Restuarant and will be served until 10:00 PM.
El Jolgorio Navideño began in 1989 as an intimate, community-led Puerto Rican holiday celebration, "to preserve our culture and traditions," according to founder and long-time community leader Jaime Rodriguez. This annual event has become an institution in the Latino community that brings together people from various sectors and backgrounds for a night of cultural celebration, music, food and community building. Brought to you by the Talented And Gifted (TAG) Association, this event will proudly support the TAG Latino Programs and Hispanic Writers Week of UMass Boston, two long-standing pillars of the community that have empowered Latino youth through education for three decades. This year's celebration will honor the roots of El Jolgorio Navideño, the effort of those who made it possible, and its impact on the community. "In honor of our 25th anniversary we are going back to Moseley's, the venue that helped make El Jolgorio Navideño the institution it is today," said Pamela A. Leins, Executive Board member of the TAG Association. "It is where so many of us were introduced to El Jolgorio Navideño - the intimate space that offers the opportunity to network and authentically build community" added Ilyitch Nahiely Tábora, Director of TAG.
"El Jolgorio Navideño has been passed on to the TAG Association, which will carry on this annual celebration because it is the perfect marriage of our efforts to celebrate Latino culture and arts while fundraising for educational initiatives that serve the community" said Marco Torres, Executive Board member of El Jolgorio de Massachusetts, Inc. "The work that TAG does everyday embodies El Jolgorio's mission of promoting and preserving Latino culture through education, art, and civic leadership" added Ramon Soto, another Executive Board member.
The night will feature a variation of contemporary Latin and traditional Puerto Rican holiday music with live performances by celebrated local talent, such as Jorge Arce y Raices de Plena. El Jolgorio will bring you two floors of entertainment, and food catered by Vejigantes Restaurant of South End. Honored as award recipients will be the founders of the event, Jaime Rodriguez, Mirna DeRodriguez, John Lozada, Dolores Calaf, Maritza Curz, and outstanding volunteer over the 25 years of the event, Carmen Colombani.
