Guitar Virtuoso Peppino D'Agostino!
Occidental Center for the Arts is pleased to present internationally renowned acoustic guitar master Peppino D'Agostino in Concert AND teaching a Guitar Workshop on Sunday, December 7! A self taught musician who emigrated from Italy in 1984 to pursue his dream, he has helped redefine the boundaries of the acoustic fingerstyle guitar genre. His keen melodic sense, virtuosic technique and warm, playful personality enhances his dynamic and mesmerizing performances covering folk, Irish, Italian, Brazilian, flamenco and jazz traditions: "minestrone music" as he calls it. As a six string guitarist, composer, and arranger steeped in classical discipline, Peppino has had an amazing recording and performing career that has spanned three decades, and garnered critical acclaim and awards the world over (voted Best Acoustic Guitarist in 2007 ). He has released eight solo albums, performed in over twenty-six countries and at Montreal International Jazz Festival, published three instructional DVDs, composed a movie soundtrack, helped design his own signature Seagull guitar, and collaborated with some of the best musicians in the world. D'Agostino co-founded The Pacific Guitar Ensemble with David Tannebaum in 2010; one of his best known musical collaborations.
Following the success of his 2002 album "Every Step of the Way", and his award-winning "Nine White Kites" (Best Acoustic Guitar Album of 2010) , Peppino D'Agostino has been touring in 2014 to promote his newest and most ambitious solo CD to date, "Penumbra". His own melodic originals blend with the works of contemporaries like Sergio Assad; his many influences, from Celtic to Brazilian touches, melt into a unique and gorgeous result, balancing the classical with a rock and ethnic-influenced style. http://peppinodagostino.com/
