Enjoy a fun, thought-provoking concert with award-winning songwriter, Bob Franke. Franke is celebrated for his ability to take the big issues of life and craft heartbreakingly beautiful songs out of them. He is the author of classic songs such as "Alleluia, the Great Storm Is Over," "Hard Love," and "Thanksgiving Eve." His songs have been covered by artists such as Kathy Mattea; June Tabor; Tony Rice; and Peter, Paul and Mary. He's toured 35 states, Canada, England and Russia and has performed on national radio programs such as "A Prairie Home Companion," "Our Front Porch," "Folk Scene," "Bound for Glory" and "Mountain Stage."
The Friday concert on Oct 24th is free to members of the Folklore Society of Greater Washington ($10 donation requested) and half-price for members of the Songwriters Association of Washington.
Beginners and aspiring songwriters who seek to hone their craft are invited to Bob's two-part, afternoon songwriting workshop at the Surge Community Church in McLean, VA on Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26.
In first workshop session, from 1-4 pm on Saturday, Bob will talk about resources for songwriters. Then he will interview participants and give them individual songwriting assignments. The next day, at 3 p.m., the participants bring back their first drafts for a compassionate and specific group critique with suggestions for revision. Bob ensures a safe and nurturing environment for writers at all skill levels.
