Join us on an unforgettable family-friendly adventure into a fiery night-time landscape as Hanley Park plays host to a secret garden like no other. Let your senses guide you through this magical setting, as mechanical fiery flowers bloom before your eyes and holly bushes ignite at a moment's notice. Created by outdoor arts experts Walk the Plank, The Fire Garden is designed for people of all ages to discover and enjoy.
The Fire Garden is a series of fiery sculptures, specially created by Walk the Plank. The Fire Garden creates a glowing landscape which the audience are invited to come and explore.
Sections are animated through flame as the entire garden shimmers - fire breathing flowers, trees with leaves glowing and intricately carved floral patterns create a calm and tranquil scene accessible to all ages and communities.

What is The Fire Garden? The Fire Garden is a series of fiery sculptures, specially created by Walk the Plank. The Fire Garden creates a glowing landscape which the audience are invited to come and explore. Sections are animated through flame as the entire garden shimmers - fire breathing flowers, trees with leaves glowing and intricately carved floral patterns create a calm and tranquil scene accessible to all ages and communities. Please read all the information below relating to the performance and what to expect.
What to expect from The Fire Garden? The Fire Garden is a promenade event. This means that the audience will be required to move around the site. Stewards are present for your own safety and to safeguard you from the fire sculptures. We will provide a safe and welcoming environment to ensure you have a good time.
When does the event start / finish? Doors open at 5pm but we request people arrive 15 minutes before the allocated time on their tickets as all entrants to the site will be subject to a safety briefing. There are four 30 minute viewing intervals and this time will be allocated on your ticket. These intervals are 5pm, 5:30pm, 6pm and 6:30pm. This is for safety reasons to ensure the site does not get overcrowded. We are allocating 30 minutes to experience The Fire Garden and you will not be hurried through to the exit.
What is the running time of the main performance? The Fire Garden runs between 5-7pm in 30 minute intervals. The intervals to view The Fire Garden will last 30 mins.
Will there be other activities and things to do? No, the event is solely for The Fire Garden
Why do you need information on people attending? Appetite is funded by Arts Council England and as this is an audience development programme we need to know who is coming to our events. We need this information to help develop more projects like this on Appetite, to let our funders know who is taking part in our events and we also need the information for the show.
Getting to the venue
You'll find us Hanley Park off College Road, in Shelton, ST1 4DX. The park is located at the heart of the city's University Quarter and is served by a number of bus routes connecting College Road (routes 7C, 24) and Stoke Road (routes 21, 21A). Stoke-on-Trent City Centre and Stoke-on-Trent railway station are less than 10 minutes' walk away. The Caldon Canal and National Cycle Network route 550 (Etruria - Stockton Brook) pass through the park. The park also has two small car parks, located off The Parkway, and at the Junction of Avenue Road and Boughey Road. Public Transport The park is located at the heart of the city's University Quarter and is served by a number of bus routes connecting College Road (routes 7C, 24) and Stoke Road (routes 21, 21A).

On foot The park is only a 10 minute walk from Hanley Bus Station.
Where can I park? There are limited numbers of car parking spaces at Hanley Park. The park also has two small car parks, located off The Parkway, and at the Junction of Avenue Road and Boughey Road. There is also free parking at YMCA, Harding Road, ST1 3AE. There are a number of city centre car parks within walking distance to the event. These are:
- Hope Street , ST1 5BT -53 spaces plus 14 disabled spaces
- Upper Huntbach, ST1 2BX - 33 spaces
- Lower Huntbach ST1 - 160 spaces plus 2 disabled spaces
- Clementsons Mill, ST1 4AA -167 spaces plus 2 disabled

- Birch Terrace, ST1 3AS -174 spaces plus 9 disabled spaces
- Meigh St surface car park, ST1 -25 spaces

Are there facilities for disabled people? The park is fully accessible for wheelchair users. If you have any specific access requirements please let us know in the registration process or email us at askus@appetitestoke.co.uk
Is there disabled parking Yes disabled parking is available. We will allocate some spaces for disabled parking so please contact us on askus@appetitestoek.co.uk to reserve a space.
Are there disabled toilets Yes, there are disabled toilet facilities on site
Is it suitable for people in wheelchairs? The Fire Garden is suitable for people in wheelchairs.Please note Hanley Park may have some sloped and uneven areas.
Is it suitable for children? The Fire Garden is suitable for children but all persons under 16 must be under close supervision of an adult. Small children must remain under the control and supervision of an adult at all times in The Fire Garden. Due to the nature of The Fire Garden we advise children 5 and under be kept in pushchairs or on reigns but this is at the discretion of the parent or guardian. Appetite will not accept any responsibility for any children left unsupervised in The Fire Garden. Stewards will be present to guide and look after the safety of people within the site.
What shall I wear? Please ensure you wear sensible footwear and clothing depending on the weather as it will be cold in November. You will need a coat to keep you warm so please wrap u.
Can I film or take photographs at the event? Photography is allowed during the show. We encourage you to share your tweets, updates, images via Flickr and Instagram using #appetitestoke.
Please note that by entering the event, you consent to being filmed and photographed during the event. Footage or images may be reproduced and published by the Promoter without restriction including but not limited to marketing and promotional use and in all media.
Will there be strobes & special effects? There are no strobes used during the show but there are flashing lights. There is also a live band throughout.
What happens if it rains or the weather is bad? This is an outdoor performance so if on the day we are faced with adverse weather conditions we will need to cancel the event. The show will go ahead unless conditions are deemed to be dangerous.
The decision to cancel a show will be made on show day. In the event of extreme weather, patrons should check www.appetitestoke.co.uk at least one hour BEFORE the gates open for messages to inform you of any changes or the latest updates regarding traffic, parking or wet weather arrangements.
Will there be First Aid at the event? Yes. Please ask Security, Event staff or First Aid officers for help. Please consider others as well as your own safety. If someone is in need of medical attention please let Security, Event staff or First Aid know so they can help.
Can I bring my dog with me? / Are animals allowed at the event? No, there will be large crowds so dogs will not be allowed onto the site (except for guide dogs, hearing dogs and registered assistance dogs)
Can I smoke cigarettes inside the event? No, smoking is completely prohibited at the event. People can smoke outside of the main event arena in the park.
Is there the possibility to re-enter the venue after leaving? Yes, but you will need to inform a staff member on the door that you are leaving and ensure you show your ticket on your return.
What are prohibited items? It is prohibited to bring onto the site any weapons, fireworks, smoke bombs, glass bottles or other articles, which may cause injury. The throwing of any article which could cause injury or affect the enjoyment of other guests is strictly prohibited. Other prohibited items include knives, aerosols, pets, glass, sunshades, tents, tables and anything that is highly flammable. There will be a security check at the gate and prohibited items will be confiscated.
Any person found to be in possession of an article deemed to be offensive or dangerous will be immediately escorted from the site.
I want to bring my child in buggy, is this a good idea? Yes, we welcome you to bring buggies for young children to reduce the risk of them running off.
Can I bring my own food and drink? Food and drink will be allowed onto the site but please be respectful and ensure all rubbish is put in the bins available.
Can I buy food at the site? Yes, there will be a few food stalls at the event.
What happens if I'm caught with drugs or weapons on me? Please do not bring drugs or weapons to Hanley Park. Random searches may take place on entry and anyone found with illegal substances or materials will be passed directly to the police. Anyone found in possession of drugs or weapons at the event will be ejected from the site and not permitted to re-enter.
Is alcohol allowed onto the site? The Fire Garden is a total alcohol free zone. Any alcohol found on site will be confiscated. The consumption of intoxicating liquor is not permitted within The Fire Garden. Any persons found possessing alcohol, or who appear to be under the influence of alcohol may be refused admission to The Fire Garden or escorted from the site.
What happens if people show anti-social behaviour? Any person showing any sign of anti-social behaviour that affects the performance and/or the safety and experience of other audience members will be ejected from the site and not permitted to re-enter.
If a person tries to enter the site whilst under the influence of alcohol they will not be allowed on site for their own and other people's safety.
Ticket Information
What is Brown Paper Tickets? Brown Paper Tickets is an international online ticketing company service acting on behalf of Appetite to manage the ticketing process for The Bell
Can lost tickets be replaced? Yes, you will be able to reprint these or order these via Brown Paper Tickets.
Will tickets be available at the gate? Yes we have reserved a small allocation of tickets for local residents who can collect on the door in exchange of a few simple contact details.
I am under 16, can I book tickets? All bookings must include a person 16 or over. We will cancel any orders where no one in the booking order is 16 or over.
General information and conditions on entry All persons entering The Fire Garden are admitted subject to the following Entry Conditions. Any person who does not comply with these Entry Conditions may be removed from the site by Appetite personnel, security or police officers
Appetite, acting reasonably at all times, reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to refuse admission to The Fire Garden to any person who acts in an inappropriate and/or undesirable manner. This includes a person who is likely to affect the safety and/or enjoyment of other guests or staff, or uses violent, aggressive, threatening, abusive, discriminatory or insulting words or behaviour or in any way behaves in a manner which may provoke a breach of the peace
By entering the site, all persons acknowledge that they are under a duty to take reasonable steps to ensure their own safety and that of any person accompanying them. All persons in and around The Fire Garden should behave in a safe manner at all times.
