2014-2015 Portland Storytellers' Guild Workshop Series
These are the three remaining workshops from our series of four. You may sign up for all three and enjoy a savings over the cost of the individual workshops.
1. January 17, 2015 From the Page to the Stage: Breathing Life into Characters and Making Stories Come Alive Presenter: Alton Chung ou have found a great story or story idea in print. How do you translate a good story on the page into a great story in front of an audience? We will touch upon characters, point of view, scene selection, and will also explore why the story is important to you. Participants are encouraged to bring a story or story idea from printed material to work on in small groups.
2. March 21, 2015 Jumpstarting a Journal for Regular Storytelling Practice Presenters: Avery Hill & Joy Cochran Most people wouldn't consider journaling an essential tool for storytellers, but this workshop will prove otherwise! We will dive into ways to use a journal to capture details, unlock ideas, and corral these possibilities into actual stories. No matter the stories you tell, you will walk away from this workshop with a jumpstarted journal that you can continue to use to recall, imagine, and spice up your storytelling. (Note: Participants may bring their own journal, or buy one at cost from those provided in the workshop.)
3. May 16, 2015 Rock Your Storytelling! Presenter: Anne Rutherford Get energized learning easy ways to add music to your storytelling whether you think you are musical or not! We'll explore and experiment in a safe, fun environment with everything from simple refrains and rhythms to full-on story-songs. (If you play a musical instrument, feel free to bring it.) You'll gain techniques to add music to stories already in your repertoire, and leave with a pocketful of new musical tales to perform.
