LO BIRD
Having cut his teeth playing as a session musician for the likes of Idlewild, Snake Davis and Holy Moly & The Crackers, Lo Bird put pen to paper to write songs that will strike the strings of every human heart in a cacophonous celebration of what it means to be alive. With his debut EP due for release in May 2015, this concert is a hello and welcome to the world.
"Lyrically quite brilliant; a dark and troubled Bill Withers"

THE FOO BIRDS
"The Foo Birds are hot stuff. Formed in 2011, the funk and soul eight-piece have toured the country and are regulars at Edinburgh's Jazz Bar.
They met through the Edinburgh University Jazz Orchestra and, following a successful first EP, released a full-length album in February 2013.
They aim to get their audiences moving, and for infectious melodies and sheer energy they can't be beaten. If that isn't enough, they're all individually talented musicians and they take their songwriting very seriously.
You can check them out on iTunes and Spotify, but we'd suggest you go and see them live while they're still buzzing around Edinburgh: their fans include comedian Phill Jupitus and, let's be honest, pretty much everyone who's ever heard these guys play. It'll be you next."

STACEY BELL

CALUM RUSSELL (Stacks/Jazz Bar)
Calum's first taste of DJ'ing was on Glasgow's Subcity Radio back in 2008, hosting a fortnightly Funk & Soul show with some like-minded friends. Later, he went on to establish the regular club night 'Stacks' at Edinburgh's Wee Red Bar, enthralling crowds well into the wee hours for over three years. Stacks hosted a wide mix of Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Funk, Swing, Rock n' Roll and Motown, along with set-piece visuals and guest DJ appearances. Having just returned to Edinburgh from Berlin, he can now be found playing regularly in The Jazz Bar and is putting out a series of mixes through Stack's Mixcloud site, with new nights in the pipe-line.
Expect a hard hitting blend of late 60s/early 70s Funk and Soul sounds, dabbling into the faster paced, roaring bars of some of his favourite Rhythm & Blues and Swing tracks.

AKI REMALLY (Jazz Bar)
Some call him the gatekeeper of the funk...
Aki spins everything from Benson to Bootsy, Detroit to Disco - if it grooves, it's good.
