Jubilee In The Rear View Mirror
In remembrance of the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer, and the lasting impact of the Civil Rights Movement, the Oxford Community Arts Center will host a theatrical staged reading of Jubilee in the Rear View Mirror by Garret Mathews.
One Night Only - $5
"JUBILEE IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR is a comedy-drama about two men of the same age but different color who must share a jail cell in the rural South at the height of the civil rights movement.
During Freedom Summer (1964) , a young black civil rights worker from the North finds himself incarcerated in a small Mississippi town with a white racist. At first, the white man acts as if his cellmate has an infectious disease and uses toilet paper to divide the cell into two halves (he makes sure the lone toilet is on his side). But he gradually gains respect for the black man who is far his superior in sophistication and life experiences."
