Christmas isnt awful if you find the right person to spend it with.
A Beautifully Emo Christmas Love Story as only the minds of Dream Theatre can present it. Loneliness, sex addiction, prescription drugs, and lots and lots of eggnog are abundant for Lyric and Nate, two miserable people who are always alone on Christmas.
What others said about the 2008 run of COLD: "Operates with the surreal logic of a psychotropically enhanced swoon fable. Menekseoglu the writer has a gift for revealing his characters through telling details." and "Arnett's hilarious, heartbreaking, expertly pitched performance as Lyric." -Justin Hayford, Chicago Reader
"Rife with wit and studded with well-crafted dialogue..." -Sarah Terez Rosenblum, Centerstage Chicago
COLD features Courtney Arnett as Lyric (Courtney, a company member of Dream Theatre is also a writer and comedy actress. She can be frequently found on the stages at iO, The Playground, Donnys Skybox and others where she is the co-creator of the two woman sketch show, CHUB STICKS, a co-writer and performer in the show, SCUMBAG MILLIONAIRES and is regular player in the groups: Trying Too Hard, The Vagabonds and The Hamiltons.) and Jeremy Menekseoglu as Nate (Jeremy is the Artistic Director of Dream Theatre where he is also founder, writer, director and actor. His plays have been produced at Dream Theatre and all over Chicago and he has acted with Right Brain Project, The Side Project, Experimental Theatre Chicago and others.) Design by Anna Weiler and photography by Giau Truong.
Since 1998 Dream Theatre has performed all original productions that include: The Black Duckling; Somewhere in Texas; Sequestered; Cold; The Samaritan Syndrome; Baby Killers; SlowAnna; Anna, in the Darkness; Medea; Antigone; Ismene and Sister 121. Dream Theatre strives to deliver the highest art in its most raw, unflinching and entertaining form.
Tony Adler of the Chicago Reader called their Critics Choice production of SOMEWHERE IN TEXAS a full-blown psychosexual nightmare, complete with devil babies. It's the damndest thing. Kerry Reid called their 2008 production of MEDEA remarkable The nihilism and narcissism of the grown-ups comes through with chilling intensity. Randy Hardwick from Chicagocritic.com said about MEDEA, Menekseoglus skill at balancing the cerebral and classic with the duty to entertain is singular and this show will do nothing but further his growing reputation. and ISMENE as high art brilliantly written (and) as good as it gets. It is the best show in this category that I have seen thus far this season. Fabrizio O. Almeida said that BABY KILLERS was A performance style rarely seen on the American stage (and) rarely executed as well as it has been done here... This inchoate blend of science fiction, melodrama, expressionism and the macabre lingers in the imagination like a strange dream..." And ...given Chicago's plethora of offerings on any given night, you're unlikely to see anything like this anywhere else."
