Saturday morning 9:00am-Noon February 28, 2015
Our sixth class in the series gets you started early for a long and productive season. What do you plant, when do you plant it, and just how do you get a garden started when it's still windy, rainy, and the temps regularly dip below freezing? Instructors from the Growing Groceries program will divulge the tips, tricks, and techniques they use to coax the earliest harvests possible all year long.
Lucky for us, our Maritime climate allows us to really stretch the gardening season using season extension techniques like cold frames, row covers, and cloches along with overwintering strategies and varieties resistant to low temperatures. Learn how it's possible to harvest something from the garden all year round.
The WSU Snohomish County Extension Growing Groceries Education Series brings together beginning and experienced gardeners with speakers and topics focused on growing healthy food using sustainable gardening practices.
No matter if you only have a tiny apartment deck, small garden space, or plenty of acreage you can grow fresh, healthy food in a healthier, more environmentally friendly way.
Developed over the last five years, the program's goal is to increase local access to fresh, healthy food by teaching the latest research-based techniques for growing food.
For more information about all the classes in the series or register by mail, visit our website snohomish.wsu.edu/garden/growing-groceries.
