"Viva! Love" screening at PUSAN WEST
[2008/100min/35mm/color]
Bong-soon (Kim, Hae-sook) is an ordinary middle-aged housewife leading a mundane everyday life. She is also a tough mother who tries to make ends meet by running a karaoke and a boarding house. Her spoiled, jobless daughter Jeong-yoon who had announced that she is going to marry one of the borders, Kusang, suddenly disappears leaving just a note saying she has got a job. Her sudden departure leaves Kusang in a miserable state and he spends day and night drinking away his misery. Bong-soon's sympathy for him gradually turns into love and everything turns upside down and she becomes very active in pursuing his love for her.
The film depicts a brave love affair of Bong-soon who goes against our common sensical perception of middle-aged women. It is not a typical family film that reaffirms that the solidarity of a family strengthens after a crisis because Bong-soon is determined to keep the wonderful present of love that came rather late in her life.
