Prof. Chih-Long Hu In-home Piano Recital
For our first in-home piano recital since our competition last June, we are pleased to have Prof. Chih-Long Hu. Former prizewinner of our competition (2006) and jury member (2013), Chih-Long is as thoroughly engaging a personality as he is a superb pianist. To order, please visit [need Alex to create link] PROGRAM: Chopin: Nocturne in B major, Op. 62, No. 1 Chopin: Polonaise-Fantasy, Op. 61 Chopin: Polonaise in A-flat Major, Op. 53 Liszt: Liebestraum No. 1 Kreisler-Rachmaninov:Liebesleid Rachmaninov: Etudes-tableaux, Op. 33, No. 1-6 Chih-Long's Bio: A native of Taiwan, pianist Chih-Long Hu's performance career began to take off after receiving honors including the Taipei National Concert Hall Arising Star, the Chi-Mei Artist Award and prizes from the Mauro Monopoli International Piano Competition in Italy, Concurs Internacional De Piano D'Escaldes-Engordany in Andorra, Takamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan and the International Russian Music Piano Competition in San Jose, California.
An active pianist, Chih-Long has performed extensively in Asia, Europe and throughout North America appearing as a concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. He has collaborated with conductors including Ann Krinitsky, Shunsaku Tsutsumi, Sakari Oramo, Nicoletta Conti, Kenneth Kiesler, Nuvi Mehta, Cornelia Kodkani-Laemmli, Robert Seebacher, Cheng-Hsiung Chen, Li-Ping Cheng and Hwei-Ming Twu. Chih-Long's performances have been broadcast in "Performance Today" through NPR stations across the country and televised in Taiwan, China and Japan. His CD album "Formosa Caprices" has received critical acclaim and was nominated as "Best Crossover Album" and Chih-Long as "Best Performer" for the 2009 Golden Melody Award. Another CD of complete Etudes-tableaux by Rachmaninoff was released in 2010. Chih-Long's teachers include Arthur Greene, Hung-Kuan Chen and Tai-Cheng Chen. Chih-Long received a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Michigan, a Master's degree from the Taipei National University of the Arts and a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from National Taiwan University. Named 2013 "Teacher of the Year" by the Tennessee Music Association, Chih-Long is a sought-after masterclass teacher and lecturer and is often invited to judge international, national and regional competitions. Chih-Long is the Artistic Director of St. Andrews Piano Academy and Festival International and is currently on the faculty at East Tennessee State University.
