The Imagination of Dreams
A Saturday half day Workshop on: The Imagination of Dreams
According to James Hillman, "Dreams call from the imagination to the imagination and can be answered only by the imagination." Freud's famous book is entitled The Interpretation of Dreams. What if it had been entitled, instead, "The Imagination of Dreams"? Jung says that the psyche consists essentially of images. This workshop will focus specifically on images in dreams. Michael Vannoy Adams will provide examples of dreams with especially vivid, vitally provocative images. Participants will engage these images interactively to expose the exquisitely enigmatic profundities implicit in them. The purpose of this workshop will be to facilitate an intimate, authentic, spontaneous experience of the oneiric imagination.
About the Speaker: Michael Vannoy Adams is a Jungian psychoanalyst in New York City. Adams is the author of four important books For Love of the Imagination: Interdisciplinary Applications of Jungian Psychoanalysis (2014), The Mythological Unconscious (2010, 2nd rev. ed.), The Fantasy Principle: Psychoanalysis of the Imagination (2004), and The Multicultural Imagination: "Race," Color, and the Unconscious (1996). He is a clinical associate professor at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. He is also a faculty member at the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association, the Object Relations Institute, and the New School, where he was previously associate provost. He has been a Marshall scholar in England and a Fulbright senior lecturer in India.
