Trio of Poets
The Trio of Poets, an ensemble of dynamic entertainers, educators and spoken word artists celebrate the release of their debut CD.
Poets Timothy Mason, Jena Kirkpatrick and Regie O'Hare Gibson are backed by skilled musicians as they take the audience on a journey from the cosmic to the personal with flair, humor and poignancy.
The poets first met in the competitive fires of the National Poetry Slam Championships of the 1990's with Timothy slamming for Boston and Worcester, Jena on the Dallas/Fort Worth teams and Regie coming from the Chicago powerhouse. Regie became one of the first men to earn the overall individual champion title.
The poets subsequently pursued solo careers with Jena Kirkpatrick becoming a much sought after workshop leader and teacher in Austin Texas working extensively with The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Texas and Badgerdog Literary Publishing. She has been featured at The Austin International Poetry Festival and recently on the Threadgill Stage of The Kerrville Folk Festival. When not otherwise engaged she can be found creating poetry on the spot for patrons of the Austin Farmer's Market on her vintage analog typewriter. Regie Gibson received his MFA from New England College. He's lectured and performed widely in the U.S., Cuba and Europe most recently at Teatro Binario 7 in Milan, Italy. As a representative of the U.S., Regie competed for and received the Absolute Poetry Award in Monfalcone, Italy. He and his work appear in "love jones" a feature-film based on events in his life. He's been featured on HBO's Def Poetry Jam, various NPR programs, and nominated for a Boston Emmy. When Regie isn't traveling between Massachusetts and Rhode Island teaching performance and poetry, he performs regularly with Atlas Soul - a world music ensemble.
Timothy Mason, long time impresario for The Old Vienna Kaffeehaus and Club Passim has pioneered creating a home for spoken word in the folk music community with numerous appearances at festivals and clubs including The Ottawa Folk Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, The Oregon Country Fair, Caffe Lena and Tupelo Music Hall. He can often be found collaborating and performing with songwriters such as Anchorage's Tom Begich and award winning guitarist Geoff Bartley.
The Trio formed in 2010 when Dick Renko, a visionary promoter in Fort Smith Arkansas decided to expand his programming and asked Mason to put together a poetry show. After a couple of phone calls the Trio was formed for a three day series of workshops in the Middle School and Boys and Girls Club, a support slot for Chris Smither and a feature concert. The result was enthusiastic and a return engagement was arranged for the following year, adding workshops at the University, a support slot for Leon Russell and a feature concert to a growing audience. Since then the Trio has been featured at The Austin International Poetry Festival, The NorthEast Regional Folk Alliance and The Old Songs Festival.
Their live appearances have proven that when these three talented and diverse performers come together the whole is indeed more than the sum of the parts. Come see for yourself.

Raves for Regie: "Regie, when you perform, you are supersonic and in the stratosphere, where you can see that the earth really is a ball; moist, blue- green. Regie, you singand chant for all of us. Nobody gets left out." ~ Kurt Vonnegut
