"It's often hard for a playwrights to get a chance to hear a new script and to get feedback from an audience while the work is still in progress." said Theater Schmeater Artistic Director Doug Staley. "Hearing a new play, seeing it up on a stage even if people are just reading from the scripts, lets the play live and breathe in a way that's not possible on the page. As a producing organization, we feel like it's a worthwhile investment in time and facility. In the long run playwrights have fresh insights on their scripts, and we have better plays to choose from."
Each play will be given two consecutive nights of readings, giving the playwrights a chance, if they desire, to tweak the scripts. Each reading will be followed by a short audience talk, where the playwrights, actors and the audience can voice their reactions.
The Quick and Dirty Play Readings will begin on Friday Oct 17th and run on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm. Admission is Pay What You Can.
