Amy, Queen of the Dead (RESIDENCY)
lemonTree {studio} RESIDENCY SHOWING
Amy, Queen of the Dead written and performed by Chala Hunter directed by Katie Swift dramaturgical support by Indrit Kasapi
Amy, Queen of the Dead, is an elaboration on a ten minute solo-show created and performed in Chala Hunter's second year at The National Theatre School. Having evolved from a solo show in English to a bilingual (French and English) 3-person play for Festival Zone Homa in Montreal and now back again to a solo show performed by Chala, Amy, Queen of the Dead seeks to explore one woman's experience of loss, guilt, priorities, and the desire to (effect) change. Can a play with topical subject matter such as climate change have actual personal resonance for an audience? How can that be achieved? Should "sparking discussion" be the ultimate intention of an art piece? How do creators reconcile the weight of social responsibility, guilt about being an artist, fear of irrelevance and the true desire to challenge and connect? This incarnation of A, Q of the D seeks to explore these questions and more.
