Beerthoven Recital Series
The Beerthoven Recital Series
Austin Saengerrunde presents the Beerthoven Recital Series: an intimate, experimental take on house-concert style concerts featuring snacks, drinks, and some of Austin's own up-and-coming classical musicians. Led by Saengerrunde Member and Pianist Daniel Swayze, these events features some of the greatest music produced by German-speaking composers and especially celebrates German Lied (song) and chamber music (for small ensembles of two or more).
This, the second Beerthoven Recital at the Saengerrunde, will take place on Sunday, November 2nd at 3:30 pm. Herr Swayze will accompany the experimental One Ounce Opera company, presenting selections of Johann Strauss Jr's opera Die Fledermaus. As self-described on the One Ounce Opera's website, "Don't let the word "opera" scare you. This is rogue, vaudevillian-style entertainment presented in celebration of the voice, punctuated by exciting cross-genre collaborations. One Ounce is dedicated to re-imagining opera in unexpected spaces, adding OOO to the forefront of the alt-classical revolution. So call us punk. Call us anything but ordinary. We are opera, Austinfied. (http://oneounceopera.com/)"
Also joining the OOO for the event will be violinist Hyejin Change. Currently Ms. Change is pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at the University of Texas in Austin and studies with Professor Brian Lewis. Frau Chang graduated from Seoul Arts High School before moving to Vienna, Austria to study with Gunter Pichler, the first violin with Alban Berg Quartet. She earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, as well as a Master's degree in Violin Performance. She has played with several Festival Orchestras, including Pro-Arte Orchestra Vienna, Junge Philharmonie Wien, Webern Symphony Orchestra (2004-2010) and YouTube Symphony Orchestra Sydney (2011). In the coming year she will be joining the Austin Symphony as an orchestral violinist, as well as the Austin Lyric Opera. Ms. Change and Herr Swayze will present two of Brahms' popular Hungarian Dances as well as music by J.S. Bach.
Herr Swayze will also present one of Beethoven's late Sonatas for piano solo, Op. 101 in A Major. For more information on him visit www.dspianist.com
