George Cole Quintet
Come join us for an amazing New Year's Eve night and toast the new year! The George Cole Quintet is a striking fusion of Great American Songbook style original material, boy-girl harmony vocals and virtuoso guitar and violin solos with Gypsy style instrumentation, their style is a mix of Dan Hicks, Willie Nelson, Louis Prima and Keely Smith. With the fiery guitar and lush vocals, George and co-lead vocalist Molly Mahoney have an undeniable, melodic and seamless vocal blend that will transport you to a sultry evening in a Parisian nightclub. George Cole is a speed demon on guitar and a crooner with a gift for comic gab. Leading the band with his propulsive "le pompe" rhythm guitar style, George also supplies superbly crafted original numbers with an infectious swing era, gypsy groove. Throw in some of his slow, exquisite waltzes, and you've got a dynamic musical experience par excellence. The fast paced show is riotously funny and George's snappy repartee with band members is hilarious. Julian Smedley on Violin makes you smile with his Stephane Grappelli influenced style. Jimmy Grant on guitar and Kenan O'brien on bass drive the bus with a mature authority the belies their youthful age and appearance.
George has toured with Joe Walsh of the Eagles, recorded with producer Roy Thomas Baker (Queen and Paul McCartney). He has performed with Warren Zevon and Buster Poindexter. George is famous for being the guitar instructor and mentor to Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt of Green Day for ten years. He recently performed as lead guitarist and co-vocalist with Keely Smith's band.
