The Future of Office Development in San Francisco
San Francisco's robust job growth and the enormous demand for office space are leading to policy debates on often-familiar fronts, ranging from affordable housing to transportation, urban design to industrial retention. But the 2010s are not the 1980s: the Financial District is not the dominant Class A business address, regional planning has new legs due to climate change, and different industries are driving demand. So how have things changed and where are we headed? Director John Rahaim and senior planners from the San Francisco Planning Department will provide their perspectives into the past, present and future of office space in the City, touching on recent and ongoing planning efforts in downtown, South of Market, and beyond, as well as tough choices that City decision-makers must weigh in the very near future in the face of voter-mandated "Prop M" annual limits to office growth.
