WFAC 2009 GALA: Mary and Max
SPECIAL GALA PRESENTATION reception to follow at the Gig Theatre
A claymated feature film from the creators of the Academy-Award winning short animation Harvie Krumpet.
Mary and Max is the story of a pen-pal relationship between two very different people: Mary Dinkle, a chubby, lonely 8-year old living in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia; and Max Horovitz, a severely obese 44-year old Jewish man with Aspergers Syndrome living in New York.
As the film chronicles Marys transition from adolescence to adulthood, and Maxs passage from middle to old age, it explores a bond that survives much more than the average friendships ups-and-downs and takes us on a journey that explores the infinite surprises that life offers.
OFFICIAL OPENING NIGHT FILM, 2009 Sundance Festival WINNER, Grand Cristal for Best Full-Length Feature Animation, 2009 Annecy Animation Festival WINNER, Grand Prix, 2009 Stuttgart Animation Festival
