(mostly) TRUE THINGS slammin storytelling slam
THEME: Ghosts
If you have ever been to a storytelling slam you know how much heart, humor and human connection emerges through people sharing accounts of real-life events told live, without notes. First Person Arts - a Philadelphia-based storytelling organization - describes a storytelling slam as "more than a storytelling competition. Its an invitation to share 5-10 minutes of your life in a room full of people who appreciate a well-told tale." Lifestage is now extending that invitation to the Long Island community with this monthly local Long Island-based storytelling slam.
This storytelling event is a little different than most. There are 4 storytellers and one of them will tell the whole, unvarnished truth. The other 3 are also narratives of personal experiences that include anything from little white lies to whopping inconsistencies. After all the stories are told, the audience gets into the action, asking questions of the tellers, then voting for who is telling the whole truth. If you vote for the correct person you get a prize but you have to be there to find out about that.
