JD Hinton in Songs in the Night
JDHINTON JD Hinton: Songwriter-Singer-Composer Lives in Austin, Texas. Never met a stranger. Thinks any day is a good day for chili. JD Hinton songs are filled with stories, characters, moods and atmosphere. JD has taken his original music into Los Angeles clubs including the House of Blues and the Viper Room. On the final Christmas of the millennium, he sang at the Vatican for the Pope. Hinton's shows in Scotland at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival garnered good notices like The Herald (Rob Adams) review: "Drums are beaten by the power of the music...a little corner of Texas. JD Hinton follows the Ronnie Hawkins and Delbert Mcclinton tradition...power and authenticity. At its best it recalls Storyville period Robbie Robertson, Bruce Hornsby, and Frankie Miller." Los Angeles radio's Dave Williams says JD's songs are: "Masculine, soulful...Impressive writing and arrangements...they remind me of either Bruce Springsteen or Waylon Jennings depending on the song. Really mature stuff." Since the 90s Hinton's songs and music turn up regularly in films, including GLORIA, TICK-TOCK, TOUCHED BY A KILLER. The movie CHILDREN ON THEIR BIRTHDAYS, based on the Truman Capote short story, which JD and Ross Vannelli scored, featured CELINE DION singing "I Have to Dream" written by Hinton with Rick Solem and Ross Vannelli. Before his music work began, JD (James David) acted in hundreds of starring roles for top television shows and was the midnight to dawn disc jockey on a highly rated r&b radio station that kept L.A. dancing the night away.
