College? The film revolves around the resurgence of Weequahic High School (WHS) in Newark, NJ, during the past six years under the guidance of ambitious Principal Ron Stone, through the hard work of his committed faculty and staff, and from the generosity of the schoolâs Alumni Association to make a difference with the youth and with the gang members of WHS. Until the 1960âs, WHS enrolled more students who went on to get PhDs than any other high school in the entire country. After the 1967 riots, academic performance flagged, gangs flooded the streets, and crime and shootings on campus were common and students and faculty lived in fear. It was not until 2001 that WHS saw a glimmer of hope with the arrival of a new principal, Ron Stone, who vowed to return the school to its former glory.
