Lecture/Demonstration - International Body Music Festival
The Lecture/Demonstration of the 2008 IBMF was a remarkable evening of audience engaging with Festival Artists that they were to see in performance throughout the weekend. An opportunity to hear about traditional body music, the contemporary creative process, how culture informs art. The 2009 Lec/Dem features Kenny Muhammad aka The Human Orchestra (New York, NY); De Rompe Y Raja (Alameda, CA) with Braulio Barrera (Lima, Peru) - Afro-Cuban Zapateo with vocalized drum parts; Las Flamencas (Madrid, Spain) flamenco palmas, voice and feet; and Timucin Gurer returning from Istanbul, Turkey, with Ozgu Bulut, discussing the interpretation of Turkish folk music onto the body. Featuring a photo exhibit of Mike Melnyk's gorgeous photos from the 2008 IBMF.
