Jules Feiffer in person with THE BIG SLEEP
JULES FEIFFFER with New Noir Graphic Novel & "BIG SLEEP" Tribute to Lauren Bacall! Reception with Double Book Signings & Live Jazz by Mike Soloway The legendary Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-winning cartoonist, screenwriter and children's picture book author Jules Feiffer returns to the Cinema Arts Centre for a Tribute to the late Lauren Bacall and a special book-signing of his acclaimed (and first) large-format graphic novel, Kill My Mother, recently featured on the front page of the Sunday NY Times Book Review. The stunningly beautiful book is dedicated to a handful of the best noir writers and filmmakers, especially Howard Hawks and his Bogie/Bacall films. Feiffer will also sign his newest, utterly delightful children's picture book, Rupert Can Dance! - about a cat who reveals his secret talent, with a little help from the girl who loves him. The 85-year-old legend fixes his material with a fresh and youthful eye, transforming familiar tropes into a crazy kaleidoscope of toxic family history that makes "The Big Sleep" look like forty winks. - Booklist, Starred Review THE BIG SLEE P (Feiffer's choice) Based on Raymond Chandler's first novel, and with a screenplay by William Faulkner among others, Howard Hawks' masterpiece has Humphrey Bogart's Philip Marlowe entangled in a blackmail scheme and with the smoldering dame Lauren Bacall, as well. Its famous murky, elusive plot actually increases its "film noir" effects - with as much corruption, murder, sexual tension and effervescent humor that film noir fans could possibly want.
