Darkness Into Light
Darkness into Light - http://darkness-into-light.com - calls its music "World Roots," reflecting the diverse musical backgrounds of its members.
Much of the group's Americana material comes from singer-songwriter, Jody Yeary, whose album "Fast Horses and Beautiful Women" is highly influenced by her native state of Kentucky. She sings, plays guitar, piano and percussion.
Nathan Ladyzhensky, born and raised in Odessa, Ukraine, formerly a viola player with the San Francisco Symphony and Opera, adds violin, keyboards, mandolin, drums to the eclectic mix. Nathan draws from classical, Hebrew, Russian, Argentinian sources and incorporates them into the band's unique blend of jazz, country, rock and world music.
Elissa Stevens, trained as a professional singer at the Boston Conservatory, brings a powerful voice and interpretive skills that effortlessly move among a wide range of styles.
The band's bass player (and Israeli folk dancer), Lee Richardson, has a Master's Certificate in Theory and Harmony from Berklee School of Music, has studied French horn and jazz trumpet, with some Ladino influences tossed in.
Greg Richey, lead guitar and a Texas/Georgia boy from way back, knows his way around blues, rock, country and jazz. In another life his bands shared club and concert stages with such stars as Bonnie Rait, Emmylou Harris, B.B. King, Joe Jackson and many others.
