Chuckanut Radio Hour with Brian Griffin & Neelie Nelson
Join us for the third anniversary show of the Chuckanut Radio Hour. Our author guests will be Bellinghamsters Brian Griffin and Neelie Nelson who have written My Darling Anna. Inspired by a packet of letters found in the Washington State Archives, Griffin and Nelson have produced a book that captures Fairhaven around the turn of the previous century. The book, in addition to reproducing many of the letters verbatim, includes many never-before-published photographs of the era. Recounting the lives of Dr. Will Gray, his betrothed Anna and, ultimately, their daughter Margaret Gray, the book is a tribute to the cultural legacy of one family in our community. The evening's program will also include music from a 1947 recording of two of Margaret Gray's prize students and by The Otters, a beloved jazz/swing band influenced by musicians from Billy Holiday and Cab Calloway to Leon Redbone and Willie Nelson; readings of winning poems in our Haiku and Limerick contest; a new episode of the Bellingham Bean and reflections by guest essayist Mike McQuaid.
