Why spend all of that time creating a unique, handmade piece and then top it off with a predictable machine-made clasp?

Students will learn the fundamentals of how wire works. Techniques include forming, hammering and twisting different metals together. BYOB: Students are encouraged to bring/buy their own beads with holes that fit 16 gauge wire. There is no experience necessary and experimentation is encouraged.

Iris Sandkhler spent thirteen years as a fine arts professor, the highlight of which was developing the jewelry/small metals program at Georgia Southern University. With this background, Iris teaching style is comprehensive with an emphasis on helping students understand why things work the way they do, so that students can develop their personal creativity as well as trouble-shooting skills. Her philosophy is to keep things simple, non-toxic and accessible to students of all learning styles.

Today you will find her teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area, travel-teaching in Hawaii, Alaska and offering private lessons during cross-country drives to the Southern Coastal Region of the United States. Sandkhlers students extend world-wide via her distance learning lessons. Iris sells her work and has exhibited internationally in places such as San Francisco, New York City, Berlin and Tokyo. The White House owns one of her pieces. For more information and images of projects go to www.sandkuhler.com.
