"History in the Making" - Screening & Reception
What did it take to achieve marriage equality in New York?
Follow unintentional archivist Fred Anguera as he documents Marriage Equality New York (est. 1996) - the nation's oldest grassroots marriage equality organization on its journey to legalizing love. From rallies and marches, through a cross-country tour of New York, to the signing of the 2011 Marriage Equality Act, this all-volunteer grassroots organization was a driving force for the cause in the streets and with state politicians
The documentary highlights many of the organization and movement activists including Edie Windsor, Cathy Marino-Thomas, Ron Zacchi, as well as celebrities like Margaret Cho and Cynthia Nixon and local politicians like Assemblyman Danny O'Donnell, Senator Thomas Duane, Speaker Christine Quinn, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
