OPENING PARTY + IN SEARCH OF THE WILDMAN by Alexander Stevenson
Welcome to the Micro-Fest, a three-day burst of progressive performance and events from the UK and Europe spread across the city of Bristol.
OPENING PARTY Join us to cut the ribbon of the Landskapet Cafe/Bar, toast this years programme and witness the first ever screening of short film 'In Search of The Wildman' by Alexander Stevenson, a transformational journey utilising the textures of the landscape and craft processes.
IN SEARCH OF THE WILDMAN In early 2013, the artist undertook an experimental residency at the Outlandia treehouse in the Glen Nevis valley, run by London Fieldworks. The project was inspired by the mythical figure of the Wildman, a character who successfully returns to a state of nature. The result is a short film titled "In search of the Wildman", in which the artist goes on a transformational journey- utilising the textures of the landscape, and craft processes.
Alexander Stevenson often works with the perception of 'knowledge' (surrounding specific groups of people or institutions) Stevenson produces diverse outcomes that are analytical, aiming at wit and intrigue. These artworks intend to question the way in which we relate to knowledge and knowledge systems, especially on the periphery. This has included objects and activities that explore and challenge ways of archiving, our relationship to history, cultural appropriation, shared beliefs, personal myths and re-presentation.
Stevenson's practice involves a wide range of processes, and has resulted in huge fabric sculptures and filmed activities in remote landscapes, through to multi-platform theatrical performances and self-generated public works with remote communities and institutions.
