StoryHarvest w/ Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra and Nation Beat
The fourth annual StoryHarvest Festival community celebration, featuring free food, music, art activities and more, takes place from 3:30 PM until sunset on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Freedom Square in North Troy (101st Street where 5th and 6th Avenues meet). The all-ages event takes place rain or shine; the inclement weather location is The Sanctuary for Independent Media (3361 6th Avenue, North Troy).
Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra take the stage at 3:30 PM, performing their amazing original blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms including salsa, merengue, cha-cha, bomba, plena and Latin jazz.
At 5 PM, the band Nation Beat brings on their 21st century mash-up of the thunderous grooves of northeastern Brazil fused with the strolling swagger of New Orleans funk.
It's going to be a party!
Just as farmers reap the harvest, providing sustenance for all, it's time to celebrate all our harvests--the results of seeds sown through art, education, agriculture, tolerance, and everything we do to build strong, healthy communities.
Bring your own lawn blankets and chairs, plus food if you want to share in our community potluck. Celebrating the power of food to connect community, there will be delicious offerings from the Chefs' Consortium, a "stone soup" featuring harvest bounty of local farmers, a barbeque, a visit from CDCG's Veggie Mobile, plus other delectables!
Art activities include: painting Freedom Flags, Troy Alley action chalk-painting "intersection art," photos with Brenda Ann Kenneally, and more! There will be a bike activity station with Troy Bike Rescue, and the folks from Transport Troy, Transition Troy and Solarize Troy will share important info about striving for our sustainable future!
We'll be celebrating community with the PreRamble folks, and inaugarating the move of the ARK Community Charter School Peace Pole to Freedom Square!
Co-sponsored by NATURE Lab, Friends of Freedom Square, Chefs' Consortium, Troy Bike Rescue, PreRamble, Transport Troy, Transition Troy, Troy Alley Action, Troy Little League, United Ordained Church, Capital Region Pride Center, Capital District Community Gardens, Troy Drug Free Community Coalition, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Oakwood Community Center, Farmers Market, 9 Mile Farm, Dennison Farm, Our Farm CSA, Albany (Beta Pi Lambda) chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha and more!
