Snap on 2&4 w/ Mel Deal
The Nashville Jazz Workshop is excited to announce the upcoming Snap on 2&4, Friday, October 10, 8pm, with one of Nashville's finest and most versatile jazz guitarists, Mel Deal.
Mel has worked in venues ranging from solo jazz guitar to symphony orchestras, and has performed with many pop and country music stars, including Michael Feinstein, Rita Coolidge, and Jimmy Webb. He has also performed with jazz/blues artists including Ricky Woodard, Gatemouth Brown, Groove Holmes, Gene Bertoncini, and Mundell Lowe.
In addition to a playing career, Mel is on the faculty at The Nashville Jazz Workshop. He has taught jazz guitar clinics at The University Of N. Alabama, Hume Fogg and Battleground Academy, and has been a guitar instructor at Montgomery Bell Academy for fifteen years.
As an instrumentalist, he has performed with the Nashville Symphony, The Nashville Opera Co., The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, The Nashville Chamber Orchestra, The Birmingham Symphony, Midland/Odessa Texas Symphony, and The Germantown Chamber Orchestra in Memphis, TN. Artists he has performed with include Michael Feinstein, Melba Moore, Lorna Luft, Idina Menzel, Rita Coolidge, and Jimmy Webb, Ricky Woodard, Gatemouth Brown, Groove Holmes, Gene Bertoncini, Jack Wilkins, Mark Feldman, Paul McCandless, and Mundell Lowe.
Mel was a close friend and student of the late jazz guitar great Jimmy Raney, and is one of the foremost authorities in the area on Raney's music and style.
For this appearance Mel will be joined by pianist Kevin Madill, bassist Jim Ferguson, and drummer Josh Hunt.
Admission is $20 / $10 high school and college students with ID. Tickets will go on sale Monday, September 29 at 10AM and will be available here, by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006) or during business hours at the NJW office (242-5299). A small convenience charge is added to online or 800-number purchases.
Seating is reserved.Seating is a combination of 4-person tables and bar stools. SEE BELOW FOR A VENUE MAP. Parties of less than four may be seated at tables with other patrons.
Policies: The Jazz Cave is a BYOB establishment, with no alcohol or food service. You are free to bring alcoholic beverages and snacks. We sell soft drinks and bottled water. The Jazz Cave is a listening room, and we ask patrons to keep conversation to a minimum and silence cell phones.
