In Good Company presents Hail to the Chief
Presidential Campaign Songs that Changed America
It's a mid-term election year and a professor at a local college is teaching his class about presidential election campaigns. A group of people bursts in singing and challenges the professor not to tell his students about presidential campaigns, but to sing the campaign songs that roused a nation. A heated argument ensues resulting in a sing-off between the two groups, judged by the audience. In the end, it doesn't really matter who wins. Both sides agree that whether you ride the donkey or the elephant, "it's the same old merry go round."
Before radio, TV and the internet, songs were the most effective way for candidates to spread their message. The show includes a colorful assortment of songs from Washington to JFK, ranging from those set to traditional melodies to those by Irving Berlin. Hail to the Chief is more than a history lesson it's a refreshing antidote to today's negative campaigns.
