Planting for Pollinators Workshop
Help your garden come alive by planting for pollinators! Flowers support the essential role of pollinators in helping to feed the world. In this workshop led by gardening expert Linda MacElwee learn about easy-to-grow drought-tolerant plants native to California and the Mediterranean that will attract pollinators and beautify your garden.

In the first half of the workshop, Linda will share her knowledge of native plants and answer questions about your garden. She will discuss which plants attract what kind of pollinators and share basics on how to provide essential larval, nectar, and nesting habitat for bees, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds, and bats. In the second half of the workshop, we'll take a trip outside to see native pollinators in action at the restored habitat along Foss Creek.

Why have a native garden?
Inviting biodiversity into your garden and building pollinator habitat helps ensure an abundance of locally grown fruits and vegetables. It also helps beautify the garden and landscape, and consequently helps limit the use of pesticides. Planting a native garden also stabilizes the soil, filters water runoff, sequesters carbon, and offers limitless enjoyment and learning.

About Linda:
Linda has practiced, studied, and advocated for organic gardening and farming for more than 25 years, and has always had a particular emphasis on native plants. She has also worked on watershed and riparian restoration for the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District, studying the relationships between plants and pollinators and the magic that happens by creating a rich habitat that invites pollinators. Linda also hosts the Farm And Garden show on the first Monday of every month on Mendocino County's community radio station KZYX.

All workshop attendees will receive 10% on retail purchases at SHED the day of the workshop, perfect for finding tools, seeds and books in our Garden Department.
