Come celebrate noted African American Master Abstract Expressionist Artists from the period of 1930-1961.

"The Black Aesthetic" featuring original works by noted African American Master abstract expressionist artists from 1930-1961, associated with the Philadelphia Pyramid Club 1937, Sprial Group 1961 and the Pacific Northwest 1930-1950.

Romare Bearden
(September 2, 1911  March 12, 1988)
Artist. Writer. Activist.
During the 1950s, he painted more abstractly, this theme reemerged in his collage works of the 1960s. Founding member of The Spiral Group - formed to discuss the responsibility of the African-American artist in the struggle for civil rights.

Paul R. Dusenbury
(1935  1998)
Artist. Musician. Teacher.
"Developed his impressionistic painting style depicting atmosphere vistas of Puget Sound waters and landscapes."

Humbert Howard
(1905 - 1990)
Artist. Curator.
A landscape painting created in the 1930s was one of two selected for the exhibit at the 1939 World's Fair in New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. In 1940, Howard became the Director at
The Pyramid Club in Philadelphia.

Norman Lewis
(1909  1979)
Artist. Social Activist. Scholar. Teacher.
